Governance of EBRAINS

EBRAINS is provided by an international non-profit association (AISBL), headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. It was established in 2019 as an enduring legal entity following the Human Brain Project.

Organizational Structure and Governance Bodies

EBRAINS AISBL functions as a central hub that coordinates a pan-European network of services, which are delivered through country-based National Nodes. Currently, EBRAINS operates through National Nodes.

Good Governance Principles

EBRAINS governance follows European principles of good governance, which include:

  • Openness: Sharing information transparently with all stakeholders
  • Participation: Involving stakeholders in decision-making
  • Accountability: Taking responsibility for actions and decisions
  • Effectiveness: Achieving strategic results efficiently
  • Coherence: Ensuring consistent and aligned actions
  • Representation: Ensuring diverse and fair representation in leadership
